Rats of ATLANTIS RATTERY (ROAR)

I am a pet rat breeder in Southern Ontario, Brantford.  Where I focus on harleys, dwarf, merle & C Locus (silver agouti, golden, siamese, marten, ivory, etc.) We also have dalmatian, downunders, roan, silvermane & marble lines.  I have been breeding rats for more then 15 years. I strive to produce better animals every generation and have removed type specific associated issues prior to adopting them out as pets.

We now have a new store Mascot!
He's a prime example of the look and temperament of my Harley (longhaired) Plush line. He's super friendly and loves cuddles.
 Come in and meet him!
Hello & Thank-you for visiting!

I am a fancy rat breeder in Brantford, which is in southern Ontario, Canada.  I have been breeding rats now for over 15 years.
I have owned many different pets & have a large variety of experience with different animals. I have volunteered at the Aviary of Hamilton, cared for horses & owned many different animals in the past from hamsters & degus, to cats to a 5' green iguana and even yes, snakes. I became exposed to rats originally as feeders because in a past relationship, we had just started breeding snakes. I had never interacted with any rats prior, one on one, and had the same assumption as many do, which is that they are just a big hamster or gerbil with the same characteristics. Last thing I was interested in was another pet that sat in the cage all day and slept, made noise all night, couldn't seem to care if you were around, and offered the occasional bite when you were holding it. I NEVER would have thought an over-sized version of that would be a good pet. I was wrong! When I saw them in the reptile store, so cute and small, all their little faces looking up at you, i just had to hold one. I'm sure they were thinking... "Great, another one of THESE guys". I was expecting the worst since I knew they were for food and probably ill treated, and even still it was relatively friendly & did not bite (very skittish which i expected as a 'feeder')! I thought that if something that was raised in those conditions could have turned out that way, that I must be under the wrong impression. I decided this was more for me; and sold the snakes (along with the feeders). I did a lot of research on rats after that on their care, breeding & genetics. I got my first few as pets, and after some time began breeding.. (for pets only)

My babies are very friendly & have been handled since birth. They are very different from 'pet store' rats (which are usually just big feeders., they almost always come from a facility, not a breeder as most would assume). They take food from hands & will not poop or pee on you or squeak when picked up because they are comfortable with people & not scared. They enjoy coming out, being held & will sit calmly in your hand or pocket with the favourite place being your shoulder. They are great pets for children (under adult supervision) & enthusiasts. I have past customer I available, many repeat customers & a testimonial page where you can see some pictures of my ratties happy in their new homes with their new families.

My rats are housed in large 162 (Double) Critter Nation cages. I also have baby cages & nurseries. All cages have lots of enrichment (including 12" silent spinner wheels), Savic Pods (plastic hammocks) & chew toys. My rats are fed high quality food which I mix myself that includes a lot of human grade & farm fresh ingredients as well as fresh foods including fruits & veggies & other ratty safe foods. I use exclusively flax bedding. I've used every type of bedding in the past, flax bedding by far surpasses the others... especially fleece. I found it to encourage respiratory irritation & no longer use or recommend it as a ground cover.

I focus on merles in a variety of shades, Harley (longhaired), Roan, Golden Siamese, Marten, Silvermane & dwarf. I also have Dalmatian, Masked, Downunder & Fawns.

Please explore my website. I will always be adding new information and I plan to pass along the information I have gathered over the years. Some pages are still under construction and will be completed soon!

Thanks!

Ashley

Our European import/export was successful!  Everyone arrived safely.
We'd like to thank our breeder friends in Europe for the new varieties. From our initial import in 2014 we brought the first Martens in all of Canada & the US, as well we reintroduced the long haired Harley rats back to this continent after the variety was abandoned in North America and only available anymore in Europe. Thank-you!
We also wish them the best of luck with the Pearl Merle variety that I exported out to all of them. I know my Canadian babies will like Europe!
